LaGuardia Airport Runways Covered in Water from Hurricane Sandy

As are most major airports on the East Coast, the runways of New York’s LaGuardia Airport have been submerged underwater due to the high winds and heavy rain caused from recent Hurricane Sandy. Devastation has happened all over the East Coast, shutting down most all venues and businesses and turning many of the nation’s busiest, bustling cities into flooded ghost towns.

Hurricane Causes Cancellations at LGA Airport

The worst of Hurricane Sandy is now over according to reports, but the destruction and inconvenience the storm has caused for many travelers will be difficult to get through the next few days. For those residents or travelers in the tri-state area in need of transportation, most of the nearby airports including LaGuardia, JFK, and Newark, and Boston may be resuming flights by Wednesday, maybe even as early as Tuesday evening, but it will be quite a task getting all of the stranded passengers where they need to go.

Expect delays in your travel plans, and consider all of the possible options to get where you need to go. There are many other airports around the area including ones in Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. If you know you’re going to be needing transportation to get around, be sure that the taxi, shuttle or airport car service is providing service due to many power outages and closed roads due to debris, flooding, and downed power lines.
