It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year since Terminal 6 at JFK Airport was torn down in New York. It stopped being used by many major airlines, including JetBlue, and was costing too much to upkeep. So realizing that it was a potentially prime location for an updated terminal, it was torn down in Fall 2011.
What is now going to be an “annex” of Terminal 5, as an extension of the JetBlue terminal which is going to be dedicated for international flights. “Terminal 6” so far only exists on paper, scheduled to serve as a 6-gate terminal as well as two baggage claim areas. The current layout requires JetBlue international travelers to use Terminal 4 because the current terminal does not have immigration and customs, so this new annex will include “an immigration and customs zone able to process 1,200 customers per hour,” according to reports on Jouted.com. The anticipated completion date for this project will be in 2015.

What is considered one of the most popular and busy airports in the nation, JFK Airport can be confusing to navigate, especially with all of the different departure and arrival terminals. Updates like these to terminals at JFK should hopefully help alleviate some of the stress that comes with traveling around the area.
