NYC Residents Without Transportation & Power Face Back to Back Storms

First it was Superstorm Sandy and now a nor’easter. The nor’easter set major hurdles for restoration attempts. It has only been some days after the superstorm killed a minimum of 111 people in the districts and knocked out power to millions of customers. The nor’easter has whipped areas, leaving snow and zapping power lines.

The nor’easter is the second hit for travelers in NYC

NYC counties don’t really need this right now. They have lost power in places they never had before and with the winds strong winds that gusted from the nor’easter, it disturbed the debris left over from Sandy. Up to seven inches of snow hit Staten Island, which is the borough of New York that was hit hard by Sandy, and the east coast this morning. Parts of Connecticut saw more than eight inches.

Commuter traffic reopened in NY this past Wednesday in the Holland Tunnel, where about 91,000 vehicles normally pass under the Hudson River between Manhattan and Jersey City, New Jersey. Flights remain affected due to Sandy and now the no’easter. Authorities advised tri-state area air travelers to make sure they check with their carriers ahead of the storm. Airlines that are serving the Port Authority’s main airports —  John F. Kennedy International, Newark Liberty International and LaGuardia — have canceled all or a considerable number of their flights through Thursday morning.
